The Sale of My MIDI Keyboard Controller

This evening, I decided to walk a few blocks from Best Buy to Guitar Center instead of drive in the holiday and rush hour traffic. As I was crossing Colorado Blvd in the cold, carrying a big old MIDI keyboard controller to resell, I caught myself expecting to be turned away, dreading the discouraged trudge back to the car with the keyboard controller still in my hands. I realized this thinking was because of the little luck I had had so far in selling used things from my house this week. Most of the clothes, jewelry, musical instruments and kids toys from the mass decluttering of my house were ending up at Arc or Goodwill in the end, so why was I even putting in the time and energy to try to sell it?  As I hurried across the parking lot in the cold tonight, I wondered if it was too late for me to change my thinking so that I did not walk into the store expecting the same poor results. I quickly said to myself with enthusiasm, “I will go in and they will totally want this keyboard controller. Not only will they want it, but there will be a customer standing there who says, I want it! That is exactly what I am looking for!” Within minutes, I found myself in that exact situation.  The cashier said that yes, he could resell it. A guy from a group of three men talking behind me butted in, “Oh man! I wish I had cash on me! I would buy that from you right now!”  While the cashier went to the back for something, the three men and I talked about how much musical equipment gets sold back after a mom, like myself, buys it for a teen who doesn’t understand how complicated the software is. I said, “Yes, I remember one time I bought my daughter some sort of Scarlett audio interface….” The three men shouted, “Oh yes, like that one?!” They all laughed and pointed at the cashier who came walking out with the Scarlett interface for some other customer. One man yelled to the cashier, “That was a Vanna White moment!”   I just stood there speechless in all of this commotion, thinking, “Wow. These men are all in the movie that I am scripting….” THE POINT OF THIS POST IS NOT TO ASK MY FRIENDS FOR ADVICE ON WHERE TO BUY OR SELL MUSICAL EQUIPMENT. NOR IS IT TO ASK FOR ADVICE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF DONATIONS OR WHERE TO DONATE. I AM MERELY SHARING THE MAGIC OF CO-CREATING! 😀 For more of my stories, join my mailing list!
